Lexington's Youth Team's
vs.
Bellevue's Youth Team's

The Bellevue 5th and 6th grade team's play final home game of season.

October 9th, 2007

Bellevue, OH- In the intense heat of Sunday Oct 7 (yes, intense and yes, Oct 7) the 6th grade teams of Bellevue and Lexington would both find it difficult to score. Lexington led the contest at the half by a 8-0 count. If not for two late scores it may have ended that way as our Redmen were unable to find the endzone despite valiant attempts. The final of 24-0 did not represent how close the game really was. In the defensive struggle it was Joshua McNeely and Tristen Pocock sharing top honors with six tackles each. Jacob Weider would add five stops complemented by a fumble recovery and an interception while Brady Hansard also added five. Checking in with four tackles was Seth Keegan who also recorded a quarterback sack. Getting into the action too were Seth Agee and Clay Fries with three tackles and Brandon Tobin with a big fumble recovery. Offensively the normally productive Redmen running game was stymied by the tough Lexington defense. Jacob Weider was held to just 15 yards on six carries. Being forced to the air attack proved challenging without leading Redmen receiver Jim Chamberlin being available for action. Joe Marin hauled in four passes good for 44 yards while Weider snagged two for 20 yards and the trio of Brandon Tobin (25 yds), Pockock (23 yds) and Kyle Norman (7 yds) each added one. Brad Willis completed six of 15 passes for 54 yards and Fries threw four times, connecting on two for 48 yards. The team was hampered by its small numbers making substitutions difficult for the coaching staff who realized that players needed rest and water along the way in the 90 degree plus heat. The kids showed a lot of guts against a significantly larger and more experienced Lexington team.

Meanwhile the 5th grade Redmen continued to roll behind the dominant line of Daniel Hooven, Joe Marin, Jacob Strayer, Grant Moyer and Christian Harris. This group opened holes time and time again as the ground game continued to produce big time results. Dylan DeWitt took full advantage to the tune of 123 yards and three scores (runs of 32, 31, and 39 yards) on just four carries while valuable ground experience was gained in the lopsided 50-0 affair by the running of Brady Hansard (63 yds, 10 carries), Clay Fries (17 yds, one carry), Dylan McGough (17 yards, 3 carries), Dillon Berkey (13 yards, one carry, one touchdown) and Grant Vickery (10 yards, 2 carries, 1 score). Scoring via the pass was Caleb Stockmaster with a 28 yard grab from Hansard. Strayer converted on one PAT. The defense also found the endzone with interception returns for touchdowns by Quinton Brimmer (40 yards) and Stockmaster (33 yards). Leading tackler in the shutout was Hansard with nine takedowns followed by Nathan Sochko with eight. Cordell Rohlf continued a strong season adding six tackles while Berkey had five as did Brimmer, who also recorded a fumble recovery.

Bellevue visits Willard to close out the season next week. In a twist to the normal Sunday scheduling, these classic NOL matchups will be held Saturday night under the lights at the Willard Varsity Stadium. The fifth grade contest gets underway at 6:00 followed by the sixth grade clash set for 7:45.
