The Bellevue 5th and 6th Gridders with solid performances this past Sunday.

  Bellevue, OH- Sunday September 30, 2007 marked week 4 for the first year fifth and sixth grade football teams. It was another great day for football at Bellevue Athletic Field and the youngsters did not disappoint the hometown crowd.

The sixth graders scored early against Shelby Gray when Jacob Weider rambled to paydirt from three yards out for a 6-0 lead. Although the offense moved up and down the field most of the day this would be the only Redmen score of the contest. Piling up the acreage with 89 all purpose yards was Jim Chamberlin. He did so on four carries for 25 yards and 5 catches for 64 yards. He left the game early with an injury and did not return. Weider scrambled for a total of 84 yards on 17 tries and Brandon Tobin scampered for 15 yards on two carries. Brad Willis was eight of 13 passing (2 int) and Tristen Pocock grabbed a 38 yard pass from Clay Fries.

The defense really hung in there for the Redmen as they would hold Shelby to a lone score, resulting in a 6-6 final. It was Justin Albright with a big interception along the way to keep Shelby out of the endzone. Checking in with multiple tackles were Josh McNeely (6), Tobin (5), and Keanu Rodriguez, Pocock, Jake Strayer, and Brady Hansard each with four.

In the fifth grade contest it was all Bellevue 44-14. Clay Fries started things off when he scored from 16 yards out on a pass from Dylan DeWitt. The duo would hook up again in the third period for a 45 yard score.

The offensive line of Daniel Hooven, Grant Moyer, DJ Kuhn, Joe Marin, and Jake Strayer dominated the game allowing DeWitt to break free on touchdown runs of 63 yards, 52 yards, and 64 yards. He finished the day with 7 carries for 231 yards. Caleb Stockmaster also used his big men up front in scoring on a run of 40 yards and grabbing two passes. Adding a reception in the victory was Dillon Berkey (11 yds). Quinton Brimmer handled the ball on four occasions for 23 yards and Grant Vickery added seven yards on two carries. Strayer nailed four of five PAT attempts.

Brady Hansard took top tackling honors with eight, and continues to lead a strong defense. Nathan Sochko recorded seven takedowns while Berkey and Grant Moyer each had six. Rounding out the stingy defense was Cordell Rohlf, Marin, Brimmer, Fries, and Strayer, each with four tackles. DeWitt picked off a Norwalk pass caused by pressure on the quarterback by Strayer.

Lexington invades BAF this Sunday for 2:00 and 3:30 games against the young Redmen. It will be the last home game of the season and football fans young and old are encouraged to attend and support the youngest of the upcoming Redmen.
