Bellevue 7 Galion 6
The Bellevue fifth grade Redmen came away the victors in a closely contested battle of defenses on Sunday at BAF. Galion was able to score early on a 54 yard touchdown run with the point after failing. The Bellevue defense would take control from that point and hope the offense could rally against an aggressive Galion squad. The score held up until late in the fourth quarter when Maurice Barnhouse broke away for a 31 yard score. Barnhouse then successfully plowed over for the point after, sealing the come-from-behind victory.
Barnhouse carried eight times for 95 yards and the lone Bellevue score and also hauled in two Daniel Thatcher passes. Thatcher added 31 yards on 10 carries to go with the two completions. Seth Linder had nine big tackles, as did Barnhouse, to pace the stingy defense. Logan Vannest chimed in with six stops while Chase Gore, Gabe Smythe, Tyler Henderson, Austin Weider, and Joshua Lunsford all recorded three tackles each. Adding stops were Jared Hoy and AJ Perry. Smythe forced a Galion fumble and Lunsford added a fumble recovery.
The fifth grade squad now stands at 3-0 on the year and puts their unbeaten streak on the line Sunday when they travel south to take on Ontario.
Bellevue 44 Galion 2
The Bellevue sixth grade Redmen cruised to their third victory of the season via a 44-2 route of Galion. The “early and often” type scoring effort got under way with a “Dylan to Dylan” connection from Dylan DeWitt to Dylan McGough from nine yards out. Shortly thereafter it was running back Joe Marin breaking loose for a 49 yard touchdown scamper. Next it was Clay Fries hauling in a DeWitt pass for a 38 yard score and Nick Diso breaking the goal line from 6 yards out. Defensive back Caleb Stockmaster was able to add points for the Redmen with a 48 yard interception return for a touchdown. Thomas Pressler added the final tally of the day on a 42 yard pass reception from DeWitt with four minutes remaining in the third quarter. Jacob Strayer was good on four of five kicks for points after touchdown. Galion’s only score on the day, and the only points tallied against Bellevue this season, came by way of an errant Bellevue snap resulting in a safety.
DeWitt was six of 10 passing for 160 yards and three scores. Fries also completed a pass for 10 yards. Triston Snezek led the receiving corps with a total of 53 yards. Cole Norman added a nice catch for a 16 yard gain and Stockmaster grabbed a pass good for two yards. Marin led the ground attack with 59 yards and a score. Dillon Berkey ran twice for 17 yards while Nick Diso also carried twice for 12 yards including a score. Single carries by DeWitt (22 yds), Kade Chumley (9 yds), Quinton Brimmer (8 yds), and Cordell Rohlf (3 yds) complimented a strong ground game.
Brady Hansard led the defense with nine tackles including several big time hits. Snezek was up to the task with six stops and Berkey added five to go with a big quarterback sack. Diso and Strayer pitched in with four tackles each and Grant Seamon had three. Alex Fielder, Nathan Sochko, Brennan Hay, and Austin Guthrie each added two tackles. Brimmer picked off a Galion pass (20 yard return) while Pressler and Marin both gathered in Galion fumbles.
The sixth grade squad also now stands at 3-0 on the year and puts their unbeaten streak on the line Sunday at BAF when they host Galion’s other sixth grade squad. Game time is 3:30 pm. Admission is free and is open to the public.
