Bellevue fifth and sixth grade teams tackle first home game
September 17, 2007
Bellevue, OH- The Bellevue fifth and sixth grade teams took to the field at BAF on a bright sunshiny made-for-football type afternoon on Sunday for their inaugural home games. The teams of Galion Blue headed north as the competition for Week #2. It was off to the races early for the Bellevue fifth graders as Brady Hansard scored on a quarterback keeper. Soon after it was Dylan DeWitt with the first of his scores on a 35 yard interception return for a touchdown. DeWitt would later score on a 34 yard run and on a 67 yard TD pass from Clay Fries. Kade Chumley dodged several Galion tacklers en route to a 15 yard score after hauling in a DeWitt pass. Quinton Brimmer bolted 25 yards to the endzone for the final tally. Plowing the way for the potent offense were linemen Christian Harris, Daniel Hooven, DJ Kuhn, Joe Marin and Grant Moyer. Jake Strayer hit on 2 of 6 point after attempts for a final score of 40-0. On defense it was Strayer with a key quarterback sack. Checking in with multiple tackles were Nathan Sochko and Hansard (5 each), Brimmer, Strayer and Joe Marin (3 apiece) and Dillon Berkey and Fries (2 each). Hansard and Brimmer each pounced on Galion fumbles and an interception was added for good measure by Kade Chumley.
The sixth grade team had their hands full from the start. Trailing 14-0 Bellevue put together an impressive drive keyed by multiple runs by Jacob Weider. Bellevue scored when Weider finished things off with a well deserved eight yard touchdown run. Offense was hard to come by most of the afternoon as the Redmen fell 56-12. Weider lead all rushers with 65 gutsy yards on 13 carries. Quarterback Brad Willis was pressured again and again but still connected on 7 of 17 for 85 yards. Jim Chamberlin grabbed three passes for a total of 42 yards, Tristen Pocock two for seven yards, with Kyle Norman and Weider each snagging one apiece. Chamberlin closed the Bellevue scoring from the quarterback position with a straight ahead touchdown run of eight yards. Defensively it was Pocock with an impressive nine stops while Josh McNeely and Brandon Tobin checked in with six each. Chamberlin and Weider each contributed with five tackles and the trio of Alex Stiles, Matthew Brown and Christian Crump each netted three. McNeely left the game with an injury in the third quarter and did not return. Reports are that he’ll be back with the team soon.
The young Redmen travel to Galion next Sunday to square off against the teams of Galion White. Coach Hansard remains impressed by the effort of the first year teams and sees plenty of promise ahead
