Bellevue Youth Football team's kickoff inaugural season!

September 10, 2007

Shelby, OH- The newly formed Bellevue fifth and sixth grade teams played their inaugural games on Sunday 9/9 in Shelby against the Whippets. The flood was gone and the field ready for play.

The fifth graders wasted no time in running out to an early 14-0 first quarter lead thanks to some great blocking enabling Dylan DeWitt to score on two long runs. Jake St ray er kicked it through the uprights for the PAT. DeWitt scored again in the second period for a 20-6 halftime lead. Defense was the name of the game in the second half as numerous players came up big. Key tackles by Brady Hansard, St ray er, Clay Fries , Joe Marin and Cordell Rohlf kept the Whippets at bay. On offense Quinton Brimmer helped run the clock with some nice runs and Caleb Stockmaster came up big with a first down catch to move the chains. The line anchored the game on both sides of the ball resulting in a final score of 20-12.

The sixth grade game looked to be a shootout as Shelby opened the game with a quick scoring drive. Bellevue came right back on their second offensive play when Jim Chamberlin hauled in a Brad Willis pass good for a 65 yard touchdown. Trailing 18-6 in the second period Seth Agee intercepted a Shelby pass and raced 95 yards to paydirt. Defense took over in the second half with big tackles by Christian Crump, Jacob Weider, Tristen Pocock and Alex Stiles. The offense moved the ball with receptions by Brandon Tobin and Clay Fries . Dylan DeWitt closed out the scoring with a 65 yard scamper on a reverse. Time expired with Bellevue failing to pull even for a final of 24-18.

Head coach Mark Hansard and his staff of Todd DeWitt, Chad Yates and Troy DeWitt fielded a couple of outstanding young teams playing together for the first time in the inaugural season. The teams both played tremendous ball, showing poise and organization. Hats off to the staff for fielding teams formed only 7 weeks ago.
