Outlook

Tradition has always been a part of Fostoria Redmen Football. Win league and qualify for state. That's what this year's team is hoping to do, bringing back some of that same tradition. Last year the Redmen were the new kids on the block. This year, they are hoping to make a real impression on the NOL. Head coach Tom Grine may have had a couple holes to fill this season but believes that this year's team is a very talented and hard-working one. The team returns 11 lettermen this season. "They've had a excellent off season working in the weight room and the kids have gained size, strength and speed", said Grine. Junior Marcus Hyde should make alot of noise this season, at quarterback, after coming off an injured sophomore season. The new shotgun offense is tailor made for Marcus and we're excited about this season said one Redmen assistant. Three yards and a cloud of dust my not be completely gone from the Fostoria playbook as another area of great strength on the team is at running back. Defensively speaking, the team should be able to put speed at every position and get to the ball. Coach Grine believes that the great competition of the NOL will only make the team better. "The team is ready to compete with everyone on our schedule," said Grine. Last season the team experienced a new league and new scenery, now the team knows what to look for from the team's in the NOL. The Redmen have also had some change in the coaching staff for the upcoming season, and the changes are some excellent ones. The players and fans should be excited about this season, and all the changes that have taken place. It is the goal of almost any team to win their league and qualify for the state playoffs, but whether or not this goal is met is determined on if they continue their hard work and remain dedicated, while striving to continue the Fostoria Football tradition.

Quarterback:
Junior Marcus Hyde (6'0" 180) will possibly be the greatest strength to the Redmen this season. Hyde has, very little experience at QB with only attempting 2 passes last season and completing 1 for 72 yds and a touchdown, but has great arm strength, accuracy and excellent speed. Hyde started the 2003 season as the Redmen's running back until an injury set him out for the remainder of the season. Hyde should excel both running the ball and passing in the new shotgun offense Fostoria will be using this year. Freshmen Chase Munoz (5'9" 135) is likely to be Hyde's backup.
Running backs:
Fostoria has tremendous depth at the running back position. Senior Matt Talley (6'0" 235) will return to the backfield after 472yds on 81 carries and 3 TDs last season and will be used as the primary back in the Redmen's one back-set. Junior Gavin Feucht (5'8" 177) is also hoping to see a good amount of action in the Fostoria backfield. Feucht captured 44 yds on 9 carries. Looking for a fair amount of playing time is also Sophomore Chase Hampton. Freshmen Terrance Poole (5'9" 200) and Stephen Roberts (5'11" 180) are also competing for time on the field
Receivers:
This is another area that Fostoria will be deep and talented with Seniors Kyle Wanger (5'11" 175) who had 18 catches for 154 yds. Shawn Pierce (5'9" 165) 4 catches for 49 yds, and Sam Echelberry (6'1" 180) 7 catches for 158 yds. Junior Antonio Crowe (5'9" 135) will see time on the field as well with the four and five wide-receiver sets the Redmen will use. Others seeing time are Juniors Stephon McBeth (6'0" 180) and Marquis Payne (5'7" 160) and Sophomore Brandon Ferguson (5'7" 145).
Offensive line:
The offensive line has a couple of big holes to fill this year. Only one player returns to the line this season. Senior Jake Mizen (6'1" 250) will return as the lone offensive lineman at his guard position. Others seeing time this season will be Seniors Matt Goddard (5'11" 195) at center, Ryan Fauls (6'2" 205) at Right Tackle, Joe Martinez (6'1" 255) at Left tackle, as Sophomore Joey Jividen (5'7" 210) looks to lock down the other starting guard position. Sophomore Joey Jividen (5'7" 210) and Senior Eric Brenner (5'11" 180) also look for playing time.

Defensive line:
A few holes are also here to fill on the defensive line this season, but nothing too big that the Redmen shouldn't be able to overcome. Seniors Matt Talley (6'0" 235) and Joe Martinez (6'1" 255) appear to be the leading men for the Defensive Line this season. Another well-filled position this season will be at Defensive End with Seniors Sam Echelberry (6'1" 180) and Ryan Fauls (6'2" 205). Senior Billy Van Sycoc (5'11" 190) will be starting for the team at Nose Guard.

|
Linebackers:
Returning at Linebacker will be Junior Gavin Feucht (5'8 177) who finished last season with 61 tackles. Also returning is Senior Seth VanHoose (6'0" 182) who will round out the line-backing core. A couple of Freshmen in Terrance Poole (5'9" 200) and Stephen Roberts (5'11" 180) will also compete for playing time.
Secondary:
Senior Barron Ferguson (5'10" 170) and Junior Antonio Crowe (5'9" 135) appear as this seasons starting cornerbacks. Both have tremendous speed and strength. Junior Marquis Payne (5'7" 160) and Senior Jose Villanuevea (5'5" 155) will be reserves at Corner. Senior Kyle Wagner (5'11" 175) will see time at safety, while seniors James Connin (5'6 160) and Shawn Pierce(5'9" 165) will compete for a starting position at safety. Also looking for some time is Junior Stephon McBeth (6'0" 180).
Special teams:
Matt Talley should be the team's punter this season. For kicking duties look to see Matt Talley with Matt Goddard pushing him for the role. Kickoff Returners will be Stephon McBeth and Chase Hampton. While Barron Ferguson and Stephon McBeth will be the team's Punt Returners.
