A Stormy night for Bellevue faithful at BAF Stadium saw the Tornado's of Tiffin hand the Redmen there first back to back loss since 1990 as Bellevue was handed a 14-12 defeat. The Redmen appeared to come out hungry and wanting to make a statement after last weeks 28-7 defeat to Willard as they recovered an onside kick and had the ball in great field possession. Bellevue drove within striking distance all the way to the Columbian 22 yardline before turning the ball over on downs. On Tiffin's first possession quarterback Weston Reinbolt hit runningback Tim Spencer in stride on a key third and long play. Plays later Spencer went through the heart of the Redmen defense for a 33 yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good and the Redmen trailed 7-0 with 6:47 left in the first quarter. Tiffin's next possession, Reinbolt fumbled the ball and the Redmen recovered on Tiffin's 39 yardline. After going three and out the Redmen punted giving the Tornado's the ball on there own 4 yardline. The first quarter was in the books as Columbian led 7-0. After a Tiffin punt, the Redmen offense marched down the field to the Tiffin 4 yardline but the drive stalled as a fourth and goal pass to Senior Ben Snyder fell incomplete giving the ball back to Tiffin on there own 4. On third and short Tim Spencer raced down the sideline for a 90 yard touchdown run. The extra point was good and the Tornado's lead grew to 14-0. That's the way the half would end and that's all that many fans needed to see before the rain and slow offensive start drove them off into the comfort of there own homes. ( I'd like to thank "The Real Redmen Faithful" who showed up to the game and that stuck it out till the end despite a driving rain.) The Redmen faithful who stuck around to support there team was not totally disappointed in the secound half. After a Redmen punt gave Tiffin the ball at midfield Senior Luke Spurlock intercepted a Reinbolt pass giving the Redmen the ball on there own 41. Plays later Junior Matt Lepley took a Jon Journay pass and scampered 33 yards for the score. The extra point attempt failed and the Redmen inched closer making it 14-6 in favor of Tiffin. Bellevue's next and final score came when Senior Derrick O'Lynn snagged a Journay pass and raced 25 yards to paydirt. The 2 point conversion failed and the Redmen was closing in, only trailing 14-12 with just under 4 minutes left in the third. The fourth quarter saw some heroic defensive stands by the Redmen defense. The first, a fourth and goal pass at the Bellevue 9 that was knocked away and the secound a fourth and one play that the Redmen defense snuffed out. Bellevue had yet another chance as they received a 17 yard first down reception for Junior Jordon Berberick. Tiffin later on the Redmen drive would be flagged with a pass interference call giving the Redmen a fresh number of downs inside the Columbian 30 yardline. Tiffin would seal the victory though as Bellevue would run out of downs and as the Tornado's ran out the clock. |
