Bellevue, OH - October 25th 2002 is a date that the Bellevue Seniors will remember for the rest of their lives. After years of dedication and commitment while wearing the Redmen colors and upholding a rich Redmen tradition the 2002 Seniors took the field at BAF Stadium one final time Friday night. The Shelby Whippets came into BAF Stadium with twenty Northern Ohio League titles only one behind the Redmen in a game that matched up two of the League's most traditonal schools. Bellevue chewed more than 6:00 off the clock on their opening drive which resulted in a touchdown on a Jon Journay quarterback sneak. The two point conversion failed and the Redmen took a 6-0 lead early in the contest. Shelby was forced to punt after their first possession and Senior Ben Snyder took the ball at the Bellevue forty-eight yardline and raced fifty-two yards for another Redmen score. Again the two point conversion failed making the score 12-0 Redmen and that was it for the scoring in the first half. Shelby road the power running game early in the third quarter on the back of fullback Aaron Alt. Alt gained small chunks of yardage moving the ball into Redmen territory before going in for the touchdown. The extra point try was good and the score was 12-7 Redmen. Just moments later on the ensuing kickoff Matt Lepley took the ball and raced 79 yards to paydirt for the score. The two point conversion was no good and the score stood at 18-7 Bellevue. The Redmen drove again late in the game to within the Shelby twenty yardline but took a final knee to run off the clock and send the Seniors out with a much deserving and memorable win. * Many of the Seniors had big nights for the Redmen led by Ben Snyder's fifty-two yard punt return. Bill Evert recorded two sacks and Luke Spurlock one. Kreg Hunter made many pad popping hits and seemed to be all over the field making plays. Congrats on a fine season and best wishes to all of the 2002 Seniors. I've enjoyed watching you guys play as well as cheering for all you. |
